UNDER 11A MIDDLESEX COUNTY CUP WIN 2014
The Under 11A side gave a faultless performance in winning the County Cup Final with a 3-0 victory over AFC Wembley. Wembley were a good side but it was unfortunate for them that they met Pinner United on day when their energy and skill levels were so high – much credit must go to Eddie Morrissey and Paul Hutchins for ensuring the boys arrived in peak condition. Right from the very first kick, Pinner were on top and penned Wembley back in their own half for long periods and hit the ‘woodwork’ three times before Ben Harrison forced home a Ronan Hutchins corner at the near post. With Luciano D’Auria- Henry controlling the midfield and Ronan Hutchins snapping away at heels, Wembley just couldn’t match the commitment and quality of passing coming from our boys and it wasn’t long before Terry Mills forced home from a Ronan Hutchins free kick. It was 2-0 at half-time with ‘keeper Eddie Morrissey (junior) untroubled.
In the second half, as might be expected, Wembley got themselves more into the game and threatened the Pinner goal on a couple of occasions but Eddie Morrissey was called on to make only one save – an important one however which was then cleared first by Kane Moran and then Beanon Corrigan before Matthew Harrison got it away. For the most part Pinner were quicker to the ball and tackled with a marvellous intensity and just didn’t allow their opponents to settle into any kind of rhythm, with the Harrison twins involved in everything. Midway through the second-half Pinner put the game to bed with a goal of such quality you had to remind yourself that these boys are only 11 years of age. Beanon Corrigan played the ball out from the back to Tristan Goodridge on the right inside channel who played a first-time ball to Terry Mills who then played it back out to the right for Tristan to run clear and cross again to Terry who lost his markers and controlled it wonderfully before hitting a dipping volley over the keeper into the net. There was still time for another Tristan Goodridge cross which found Ben Stewart clean through but he was narrowly adjudged offside just as he was about to make it four. Terry Mills was awarded the Player of the Match award by Middlesex County FA for a performance of quality, endeavour and, of course, some excellent finishing.
This County Cup win caps a fantastic season for the boys who won their Watford Premier Division by 6 points and reached the League Cup final also – they lost that one but today was the one everyone wanted and was a victory their quality fully deserved.
